About

Why this exists.

Seventy billion dollars of Americans' money is held in state treasuries. Less than six percent of it gets returned each year. The structural reason is simple: the system is poorly advertised, confusingly split across 52 jurisdictions, and surrounded by a confusing constellation of third-party services.

Unclaimed.Money exists to be the plain-English front door to the entire system. We are not a government agency. We are not a recovery firm. We do not store your search information, we do not charge for anything, and we do not ask for your Social Security number under any circumstance.

We direct every user to the official state treasurer database that applies to them. We maintain long-form educational content about how the system works, how to avoid scams, and how to handle complex cases like heir claims. Where we earn revenue, it comes from carefully selected affiliate relationships with financial services that complement — but do not replace — the free state process. These relationships are disclosed openly on our disclosures page.
